The University’s main campus is located in Seoul. SNU offers more than 80 undergraduate and more than 90 postgraduate (MS and PhD) degree programs. Seoul National University offers fully-funded scholarships for all programs.

Description of Scholarship

The Seoul National University provides various fully-funded scholarships to excellent international students for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Most of these scholarships are fully funded, and they cover tuition fees, living expenses, medical insurance, etc. The SNU announces scholarships at both stages, i.e., before application and after admission. 

Graduate Scholarships

The SNU offers different scholarships for graduate students (MS/MPhil and PhD students). The university offers 4 different scholarships for which graduate students can apply during the application period. The SNU also offers a fully-funded scholarship to which the graduate students can apply after successfully securing their admission. 

Before Admission

The SNU offer the following scholarships before admission.

  1. Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP)
  2. SNU President Fellowship Program (SPF)
  3. Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS)
  4. Silk Road Scholarship

Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP)

The KGSP is a scholarship provided by the Korean government. The KGSP provides options of embassy track and university track. The applicant can apply in any of these tracks. The SNU selects 40 to 60 graduate students each year applying to university graduate programs through the KGSP university track. Applications for KGSP is usually advertised in February each year

Scholarship Benefits 

  • For the Master’s program, the full tuition fee is exempted for 4 semesters and 6 semesters for PhD program.
  • 1 Million KRW per month will be provided for living expenses. 
  • One economy round trip airfare.
  • The fee will be provided for one year of Korean language training.
  • The scholarship will also cover the settlement and returning expenses, medical insurance, research funds etc.  

Selection Procedure

For the University track: An application must be submitted to the SNU admission office. The admission office recommends selected students to NIIE  that makes the final selection. 

For Embassy track: An application must be submitted to the Korean embassy in the country. The embassy will recommend selected students to NIIE  that makes the final selection. 

SNU President Fellowship Program (SPF)

A newly admitted student to the SNU PhD program and faculty member of a major university in developing country (countries in Asia, Africa, South America, etc.) without PhD is eligible for this scholarship. The SNU selects 8 Scholars each semester for SPF. 

Scholarship Benefits

  • The recipient is exempted from the full tuition fee for a period of 6 semesters.
  • The awardee will receive 1.5 to 2 Million KRW per month as living expenses for three tro four years.
  • The awardee one economy round trip airfare.
  • The scholar will have Korean language training.
  • The scholarship also provides National Health Insurance fee reimbursement.

Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS)

The GSFS is awarded to non-Korean applicants who have graduated from eligible countries and are accepted for admission into the SNU. Usually, 20 students are selected for the award of GSFS scholarship. Students can apply for this scholarship every semester during the application period.

Scholarship Benefits

  • The recipient is exempted from the full tuition fee for a period of 4 semesters.
  • The awardee will receive a minimum of 0.5 Million KRW per month as living expenses.

Silk Road Scholarship

The applicants of selected departments from the Silk Road region can apply for this scholarship. Following are eligible departments, i.e., Humanities or Social Sciences, including Korean language, history, culture, politics, and economics. Interested students can apply each year in the fall semester during the application period for the award of scholarship.

Scholarship Benefits

  • the recipient is exempted from the full tuition fee for 4 semesters.
  • The awardee will receive 0.6 Million KRW per month as living expenses for four semesters.
  • The awardee one economy round trip airfare (up to 1 Million KRW).
  • The scholar will have Korean language training.

After Admission

SNU Global Scholarship is a major scholarship offered by SNU to international students successfully enrolled in a graduate program. University selects approximately 160 students for the award of this scholarship. This scholarship has the following benefits.

  • Tuition Fee exemption
  • Living Expenses (amount vary depending on circumstances of the student)
  • Language Training
  • Funding for academic support

Undergraduate Scholarships

The Seoul National University offers various fully funded scholarships for undergraduate students on which students can apply before or after admission.

Before Admissions:

The Seoul National University offers the following scholarships for undergraduate students to which applicants can apply during the admission application period.  A list of These Scholarships is given below

Korean Government Scholarship Program KGSP

The KGSP is a government scholarship to study in different universities in South Korea. The SNU takes approximately 20 to 40 students each year in this program. The KGSP announces undergraduate scholarships in September usually.
Eligibility Criteria:
International students who want to pursue their undergraduate SNU are eligible for application. Note that students who want to enroll in a program that takes more than 4 years to complete are ineligible for this scholarship.
Scholarship Benefits:
The KGSP covers the following fees:
1. Full tuition fee for eight semesters.
2. Living expenses up to 0.9 Million KRW per month.
3. One economy round trip airfare.
4. One year Korean Language Training fee.
5. Scholarship also covers settlement expenses, medical insurance, and return expenses.
Application Procedure:
Korean Embassy of the respective country announced the scholarship, and the application must be submitted to the embassy. The embassy will shortlist candidates, and the final selection is made by NIIE.

Overseas Korean Scholarship

This scholarship is for Overseas Korean students applying for undergraduate studies at SNU. Scholarship benefits are similar to KGSP. The application period for this scholarship is usually February or March.

After Admissions

The Seoul National University offers the following scholarships for successfully enrolled undergraduate students. 

GKS Support Program for Self Finance Students

Undergraduate students in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th years of study and studying on self finance can apply for this scholarship. To become eligible for a scholarship students must have a GPA over 80 out of 100. This scholarship provides support of 6 Million KRW in a duration of 12 months. 

DAEWOONG Foundation Scholarship

DAEWOONG Foundation provides a one-time award of 2 Million KRW to international students enrolled in the undergraduate program of the SNU. Students can apply in April each year for the award of this scholarship. 

What is the deadline for SNU scholarships?

SNU offers scholarships in both spring and fall semesters. Admissions are open for both Spring and Fall semesters.

The application deadline for fall 2024 graduate admissions will be September 2024

  2. I am interested goverment scholarship for my education and my fucture that’s why I have to find some fully scholarship for help me. Bacause I was born in a poor family, my parents they can’t give and pay money for my education, so that I need a help from your fully scholarship. But even my parents they can’t suppot me a big thing but they can suppots me a small thing. And than I think so much a bout my family and my life but however I hope one I have to get a Job for help my family.
